Commonwealth Day - Monday 12
March 2012
Commonwealth Day is the annual celebration of the Commonwealth.
The Commonwealth was formed in April 1949 when Heads of State
from Australia, Britain, Ceylon, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South
Africa, and the Canadian Secretary of State for External Affairs met
in London to discuss the formation of an organisation to work as a
colonial partnership based on equality, choice, and consensus. The
outcome was the Declaration of London which gave birth to the modern
Commonwealth. The organisation decided at a meeting in Canberra in
1976 that Commonwealth Day would be celebrated on the second Monday
in March each year.

Commonwealth Week - Monday 12
March - Sunday 18 March 2012
Details (events, venues, time, etc.) to
follow
The theme for this year is 'Connecting Cultures'.
This has, for the last twelve years, been the perpetual theme
of the not-for-profit international charity fundraiser
and community empowerment culture and charity pageant, Miss
Commonwealth, whose principal purpose, of promoting community and
environmental sustainability in aid of community Quality of Life
improvement, is facilitated by its structure of eight composite
pageants, including four cultural sector pageants, namely
Miss Commonwealth Africa, Miss Commonwealth Asia-Pacific, Miss
Commonwealth Caribbean, and Miss Commonwealth Euro-Atlantic, for the
promotion of cultural and community togetherness, harmony and
cohesion. Through the national pageants of the Commonwealth
nations in each cultural sector, the theme resonates throughout the
Commonwealth and the rest of the world, the later benefiting
from the special allocation, to it, of the sister pageant, Queen
Of Friends Of The Commonwealth Pageant. The theme is promoted to
every age group in the world by the ambassadorial activities
of the international Triple Crown pageants, Miss Teen
Commonwealth International, Miss Commonwealth International and Mrs
Commonwealth International.
